Bark is the skin of the tree, wrinkled, split, marked by time. This mirror by Joëlle Fèvre was first created in ceramic before finding its language in bronze: a large square of glass ringed with a frame of bark cast in patinated bronze, ten to a side, set edge to edge with a wood grain like strips torn from the trunk. The gathered folds and furrows run all around the glass, and the reflection, framed by this rough matter, gains in depth. The bronze keeps all the roughness of the living matter: at the centre, smooth and clear, the mirror stands out against the bark.
