The mail coach is the English post carriage, those horse-drawn vehicles that ran the roads laden with the mail. The sconce keeps one telling detail: two mobile rings hang at its sides, like the chains with which the teams were harnessed. Simple and worked at once, it keeps the bronze the grain of the casting beneath the patina. The cintered shade sets above: the light climbs and descends on either side, and the rings swing in a light shadow against the wall.
