Rinceaux

The rinceau is that ornament of foliage scrolled into volutes that has run since antiquity along friezes and panelling. The maison Charles cut it out in metal, at the top and bottom of a sconce, on either side of a brass shade. The openwork arabesques frame the light. The classical ornament reads as a shadow against the lit wall
