Crocodile

Michael Wagner casts in gilt bronze a crocodile skull, jaws ajar on its fangs, scales and sutures rendered to the nearest detail of the bone. The gold transfigures the remains: an object of the cabinet of curiosities, a sumptuous vanitas. The light glides over each tooth, each socket. Issued in eight examples, the piece holds of the fetish and of the jewel.
