The falbala, that flounce of twisted cloth, that trimming, draws a door handle here. Philippe Parent has cast in bronze a vertical braid of 64 cm, cords mingled and interlaced like a silk gimp, held top and bottom on its roses. The hand grasps it full-palm as one takes up a marshal's baton: that ceremonial staff, sheathed and crowned, the emblem of command. The bronze renders each twist. Down to the accessories, the maison Charles tends the detail: the door opens by a sceptre of metal.
