Kuta

Kuta, on the coast of Bali, is famed for its sunsets over the Indian Ocean. Philippe Parent keeps that oblique, warm light: a head of polished brass in the shape of a diabolo — a cylinder with hollowed flanks, open at the top — set at the end of an arm of hammered bronze springing from a base of veined marble. The mirror polish of the head answers the dark grain of the arm, the hardness of the stone the curve of the metal. The light comes out from above, indirect and soft.
