Lorenzo is a reading lamp: everything in it is made to keep company with the book and the hand. Laurent Charles drew a lamp of quiet companionship, sober and exact. He raised a slender stem of dark brass on a bevel-cut marble base and crowned it with a tilting head that aims the light at the page. The pale stone anchors the vertical; the metal, discreet, withdraws.
