Propylees

The Propylaea are the monumental gateway that opens onto the Acropolis of Athens, a forest of columns at the threshold of the sacred. Philippe Parent quotes their fluted shafts in this brass column, from which an articulated, counterweighted arm reaches out to bring the shade above the reader. Antique rigour meets the mechanics of an architect's lamp. Polished brass rises straight from a stepped base. The light, fully orientable, settles wherever the hand directs it.
