Antilope Larchant

by Felix Agostini, 1976   { The Agostini Legacy }

Larchant exists: it is a village at the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau, where Félix Agostini liked to walk and where he modelled this piece. Of an antelope, however, there is no trace in those woods: the animal comes from elsewhere, leaping, legs strained, neck thrust forward. The gilded bronze, hollowed in its body, runs from its polished edges to the grain of the casting. It is through this hollow that the light passes: crouched in the flank of the animal, the source glows red in the hollow of the bronze and sets a halo behind the leap, like a trace of the running.
