by La Maison Charles, 40's { The Charles }
The Empire style made the column an emblem of power, inherited from Rome and revived under Napoleon. Maison Charles cast its own in bronze and brass: a smooth, straight shaft rising from a stepped square base encircled by an ornate frieze. The wide lampshade, in fabric or brass, crowns the column with a luminous volume. Nothing distracts from its verticality. The polished metal carries a continuous reflection from base to summit. The lamp embodies the rigour of classical architecture.
