Companion to Venus, Couple enlaces two figures instead of one: Jacques Charles brought forth in polished stainless steel two abstract silhouettes, pressed against one another, almost merging into a single mirroring shaft. At their summit, light wells up from the embrace. The reflecting planes answer one another from body to body. Without a shade, the piece becomes sculpture. Set on the floor, it raises the image of two beings fused into the same luminous vertical. It belongs to the great series of stainless-steel lights Jacques created in the sixties, resolutely of the seventies in spirit.
