Back

The swordfish cleaves the water with a long tapered rostrum, a living blade cut for speed. The sconce keeps its line: a single bronze stem, drawn out vertical, thickening at its middle into an openwork spindle before narrowing at both ends like a fish's weapon. Félix Agostini works the metal in raw, scaled relief, faithful to the grain of the casting. The piece holds as much of the sculpture as of the light: bare, it diffuses its halo from the wall, the source crouched behind the blade; in a second version, a shade comes to cap the sculpture, held horizontal.
