by Laurent Charles, 80's { The Charles }
In the ancient Roman theatre, the cuneus is a wedge-cut section of seating: bounded by stairways, these blocks divided the cavea according to the rank of the spectators. Laurent Charles has drawn from it the fins of an Art Deco amphora: a full, dark belly from which, on either side, wedges of polished metal spring, like handles turned abstract. Set on a round foot, it is capped with a broad conical shade. The contrast plays between the deep matte of the body and the gleam of the silvered fins. The light comes down, broad, from the great fabric cone.
