The round shield, struck at its centre with a boss, crossed cultures from Antiquity to the parades of the East. Söhé David-Kawauchi and Hadrien Francillon make of it a lamp of Art Deco and Orientalist spirit: a disc raised at a slant on fine brass stems, its heart turned in concentric circles lighting like a medallion. It comes in walnut as in gold leaf, each material changing the light. The LED lodges within, unseen. Face on, the piece is as much shield as star.
