by La Maison Charles, 40's { The Charles }
The Directoire style, born in the last years of the eighteenth century, draws its rigour from Antiquity: straight lines, urns and ornament all in restraint. The maison Charles has cast an amphora of silvered metal, fluted belly and handles scrolled into crosiers, raised on a cubic pedestal. Nothing is in excess, everything holds to the vertical. The brass shade, topped with a finial, extends the silhouette of the vase. The light slides over the polished metal and underlines the steady curve of the belly.
