Bonsai Ginkgo Biloba

The bonsai is the art of holding an entire tree in the hollow of a tray: Pierre Salagnac applies it to the ginkgo, that survivor of prehistoric times. The bronze trunk, dark and twisted, carries a cloud of small fan-shaped leaves covered in gold, planted in a low cup. The contrast of the patinated trunk and the gilded leaf gives the piece its depth. Each chased leaf catches the light. The tree of origins stands there, miniature and gilded, like a relic.
