Charleston

by Chrystiane Charles, 70's   { The Charles }

The Charleston, dance of the Roaring Twenties, threw arms and legs in every direction in a movement full of high spirits. Chrystiane Charles recovers that impulse in a corolla of bronze leaves that part and fling out, as if caught mid-motion. The silvered leaves, striated and chased, let the light filter between them. Set on a dark base, the composition lights from within. The form evokes the bud about to break open as much as the silhouette of a dancer mid-turn.
