by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
Cythera is the Greek island where, so the story goes, Aphrodite was born of the sea foam: the island of love toward which Watteau set his lovers sailing. Chrystiane Charles has drawn from it a sconce of gilt bronze leaves, pointed like the myrtle dear to Venus, raised in pairs into chevrons and stacked. Like Cascade or Écorce, the piece comes in several models, which combine and overlap at will: the composition runs from single to triple, one, two or three pairs of leaves. The light glides along the bronze, golden.
