by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
A waterfall falls in tiered sheets, each breaking on the next. Chrystiane Charles has drawn from it a sconce of gilt bronze where three rows of fan-shaped leaves pour one beneath the other, like a fall of water that had taken a leaf for its model. The light, set behind the tiers, rises and falls along the wall, lighting each frond. The chased bronze brings the veins to a glow. The piece, generous and theatrical, turns the wall into a gilded cascade, fixed in full movement. The sconce also comes in a one- or two-leaf version.
