by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
The sail is the emblem of travel and of the oceans: Chrystiane Charles has made a marine sconce of it, drawn from the reverse of her Anthinéa model. An oval of frosted glass swells with light like a sail filled by the wind, stretched on its bolt-ropes, and in its hollow a spray of bronze climbs, like the fine framing of a rig. The light, held in the glass, diffuses its whiteness; at the centre, the gilt bronze rises like the stem of a ship and picks out its heart. The form, slender and pointed, seems ready to put out to sea.
