Ikebana, the Japanese floral art, composes with the void, the full, and the flower, in a tense and asymmetrical balance. Chrystiane Charles drew from it a sconce, drawn from her Feuille d'Eau lamp: long, coiled bronze leaves rise along the wall in an openwork sheaf, gilt or silvered, from which the light escapes through the gaps. The composition, vertical and free, casts its shadows on the wall. A Mini version (ref. 7022) takes up the motif at a smaller scale. Japanese rigour meets bronze d'art in the French manner.
