The impala, antelope of the African savannahs, owes its grace to its fine legs and prodigious leaps. Jean-Manuel Freitas drew from it a floor lamp all in legs: long, tapered metal stems cross in a tripod, splayed wide at the floor, and carry on past the conical shade they grip, like horns. The light lodges in the hollow of the cone. The taut structure seems ready to spring.
