The impala, antelope of the African savannas, owes its grace to its slender legs and its prodigious leaps. Jean-Manuel Freitas has drawn from it a table lamp all legs: short tapered metal rods cross into a tripod, splayed on the base, and reach up past the conical shade they clasp, like horns. The light sits in the hollow of the cone. The structure, taut and compact, seems ready to spring. Brought down to the scale of the table, the antelope keeps all its drive.
