The phalène is the night moth that circles lamps and loses itself in them: of all insects, it is the one light draws most surely. Philippe Parent has made it the very subject of the object. Three slender legs of gilt bronze part and rejoin to carry, in balance, a shade of veined alabaster. The stone lets through a milky clarity, crossed with clouds: one might take it for the translucent wing of the moth, stretched around the flame.
