The rush grows with its feet in the water and its head in the wind: a bare, supple stem that bends without ever breaking. From it has been drawn a great curve of grainy-surfaced bronze, springing up on one side as a tapered blade while the other hollows into a handle to carry the light. The polished brass shade seems to bud from the bronze stem, swollen by the wind. The stem, textured like bark, holds the whole balance of the piece.
