by La Maison Charles, 2000's { The Charles }
Frédéric Cavallaro takes up the Orgues of Jacques Charles and slips a heart of stone into them: between the polished metal pipes, a slab of alabaster, backlit, radiates a warm, milky light. The contrast makes the piece: the minerality of the metal against the warm flesh of the stone, the clean line of the tubes against the veining of the alabaster. The light issues both from the pipes and from the translucent block.
