by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
This lamp was born of a journey Chrystiane Charles made to Egypt: she had brought back, alongside her sketches, the memory of papyrus, of the palm and of the great ceremonial fans carried at the pharaohs' side. The form opens into a perfectly symmetrical fan, veins radiating from the centre to the edge of the palmate leaves, an arch hollowed at the heart of the piece. The bronze is chased with the same care on both faces. No shade: the light springs from between the leaves.
