by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
The arum raises a spathe curled into a horn around its spadix, on broad spear-shaped leaves: a flower already close to sculpture. Chrystiane Charles gives the large version here: a tall, deeply veined leaf rising as a blade, and the open spathe at its side, cast in bronze on a square base. The light, lodged in the horn, lights the flower from within. The gilt bronze runs along the veins of the leaf and sets the hollow of the spathe gleaming.
