Carmen & Luis

by Philippe Parent, 2006   { Collaborations }

For this floor lamp, Philippe Parent sculpts blocks of wood cut into facets, forming a column all in relief, like a warm totem, set on a base of lacquered wood and crowned with an orange collar beneath the shade. The pale wood, carved face after face, catches the light in each of its planes. The name, like a couple, speaks of the accord of wood and lacquer, of raw matter and vivid colour. The piece breathes a southern warmth, almost Iberian.
