In Roman myth the tree belongs to Jupiter, master of the gods. For the Celts the oak is sacred, and it is in its branches that the druids gather mistletoe. It is sacred too for Saint Louis, who dispensed justice beneath its boughs. And oak leaves adorn the french medal of the Légion d'honneur. Chrystiane Charles has seized its seed: the acorn, enlarged, cast in bronze, forms the body of the lamp; at its foot spread a few lobed oak leaves, chased to the vein. The brass shade caps the fruit like a cupule. The lamp comes in gilt bronze or a dark patina.
