Coupe Envol

by Chrystiane Charles, 60's   { The Charles }

Coupe Envol weds two gestures in the purest Art Deco spirit: the cup that gathers the light and the flight of the leaves that escape it. Chrystiane Charles suspended a broad bowl of sandblasted glass, beneath which a bouquet of silvered-bronze leaves opens, raised, as if caught in an upward current. The frank geometry of the bowl and the stylisation of the leaves sign the vocabulary of the 1930s. The light, diffused by the glass, descends in a soft sheet, while the leaves catch the brightness at the centre. The roundness of the cup meets the surge of the foliage.
