The euphorbia owes its name to Juba, ancient king of Mauretania, who named it after his personal physician: he knew the virtues of the white milk hidden beneath the plant's skin. A succulent of dry lands, it raises there its full, bare volumes. Jacques Charles has drawn from it a polished bronze sculpture: fleshy lobes that coil and fold back, set upon a geometric base with a mirror finish. The brass shade echoes its silvered gleam.
