by La Maison Charles, 90's { The Charles }
The orb, the perfect sphere, long figured the world and the heavens, even in the hand of sovereigns. Adrien Blériot and Martin Chatelier have made of it a lamp: a globe entirely of brass, made of curved, successive sheets wound one within the other, from matte copper to polished gold, like the gores of a world map. The light wells from between the sheets and slides over the polished bands. The globe rests on a cubic base. Instrument and star at once, the piece turns a play of reflections upon itself.
