Back

The bull has spoken of force from the walls of Lascaux to the arenas: a gathered mass, a low neck, horns thrust forward. Félix Agostini draws it out here into a tapered body, raised on its legs, the head crowned with two short horns. Restored from the original plaster by Lucile, his granddaughter, the animal had never been editioned before Charles. A half-open shade envelops it like a cocoon: the light issues from below, glides over the chased bronze, and lets the neck emerge from the shadow, head high. A sculpture version also exists.
