The compass traces circles and measures distances: two arms that open from a single point. The floor lamp adopts its figure. Two bronze stems rise from the floor, joined at the top, splayed toward the bottom where a ring closes them like a hinge. The casting stays sober, smooth in places, broken in others, faithful to the work of the hand. The cylindrical shade caps this tapered mast: the light falls along the bronze arms, and their splay carries on as a shadow on the floor.
