by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
Seaweed has no roots: it clings, ripples, and climbs toward the light on the current. Chrystiane Charles has set a colony of it climbing along a brass column, bronze branch after bronze branch, as though the tide had left them there. The casting hugs each twig, each curve of the marine plant. In its original form, the rectangular brass shade closes the top of the shaft.
