The archaeopteryx is the bird of origins, first feathered vertebrate to rise from the Jurassic, half reptile, half fowl. The sconce deploys its wings: two long membranes of parchment stretched on bronze veins, open as if for a suspended flight. Behind the veil run ribbons of LED, the archaic accorded to the technique of today by the ateliers of Charles. The light diffuses through the parchment a glow of dawn: it draws the membrane of the wings, runs along the bronze veins, and lends the fossil the gleam of a bird ready to flee.
