Elder sister to the Caryatide, the Grande Caryatide pushes further the bearing figure of antique architecture. Her body becomes an arrow, her face borrows the features of an animal: a talisman-statue, at once protective and enigmatic. Three bronze arms rise toward the ceiling to support the screen, the casting keeping its vein beneath the patina. The light rests on this support like a load borne at arm's length: it climbs behind the stretched veil, descends toward the bronze, and the arrow-body stands out in shadow.
