by Felix Agostini, 1950 { The Agostini Legacy }
Ariel is the spirit of the air in Shakespeare's The Tempest, a light creature that obeys the breath and vanishes into the wind. Félix Agostini gives him a body: a human silhouette stretched to the extreme, suspended from the shade it seizes with a single outstretched arm, the rest of the body sweeping the air below. The bronze keeps the grain of the casting, rough in places, smooth elsewhere. Possessing its exact mirror, the sconce is conceived as a solo or a duo, two figures that answer one another on either side. The light glides over the metal and inscribes on the wall an aerial shadow: that of a body that never touches the ground.
