by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
Cythera is the Greek island where, so the story goes, Aphrodite was born of the sea foam: the island of love toward which Watteau set his lovers sailing. Chrystiane Charles has drawn from it a table lamp where a single pair of gilt bronze leaves, pointed like the myrtle dear to Venus, rises in a chevron on a brass stem set on a cubic base. The brass shade caps the composition. The light glides down from the shade onto the two chased leaves, golden.
