by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
The sunflower carries heliotropism in its name: its bloom follows the sun's course from east to west. Chrystiane Charles has cast the full corolla in gilt bronze, a heart grained with packed seeds and a crown of radiating petals, on a stem ringed with broad leaves. The whole rises on a geometric base. The brass shade, horizontal, stands as a star above the flower. The light hollows the relief of the seeds at the centre of the disc.
