Nenuphar Coupelle

by Chrystiane Charles, 70's   { The Charles }

In Egyptian myth, the sun is reborn each morning from a water lily: the flower opens at dawn and closes at dusk, and it was from its corolla, they say, that the star first rose on the first day. Chrystiane Charles has cast leaf and open flower in bronze, then raised a curving stem that bears a brass dish, a dome of metal tilted like a low sun over the pond. The light falls on the chased plant. The whole movement goes from water toward sky.
