by Jacques Charles, 60's { The Charles }
In the 1960s, Jacques Charles launched a great series of stainless-steel lighting, resolutely Seventies in spirit. The ogive is the pointed arch that held up the Gothic cathedrals: two curves that meet at a point and launch the nave upward. Jacques Charles made of it a vertical lamp: two brass blades that rise and close into an almond, enclosing at their centre a small cone from which the light escapes. The whole rises on a cubic base. The form, pure, is as much arch as spindle.
