by Felix Agostini, 1958 { The Agostini Legacy }
The plinth is what raises the work, the support that separates the sculpture from the common floor. Here, Félix Agostini takes it for his subject: a rectangular bronze block, raised like a stele, hollowed at its centre with an imprint that evokes a frozen casting or an archaeological fragment. The matter keeps all its relief, its accidents, the grain of the work of the hand. The light comes from above, held by a shade of two curved panels that face one another, all but nesting together: it glides over the faces of the bronze and sets the shadow playing in the hollow of the block.
