by Chrystiane Charles, 70's { The Charles }
Ceylon: the name alone summons cinnamon, tea and the precious stones the island once sent along every sea route. Chrystiane Charles makes of it a lamp-lantern: a hexagonal column of brass, dark and deep, framed by gilt-bronze edges worked into bamboo canes. The shade, hexagonal in turn, takes up the dark tone of the foot. The light, soft, takes its colour as it passes the metal, as though filtered through a window of the East.
